Selling Wedding Dresses vs. Consigning Wedding Dresses

selling wedding dresses

It’s a common situation for bridal store owners. For one reason or another you have sample dresses that you need to liquidate. Weather you have dropped a poorly performing line, have discontinued styles you can no longer order, or you’ve decided to take that early retirement and close your boutique there are two common ways of liquidating bridal gowns consigning or selling.

What are the differences? And what is the best option for your situation?

Consigning Wedding Dresses

  • Pro: You will likely get a better price for your inventory.

  • Con: The dresses can take a while to sell which means it will take a while for you to receive your consignment payment.

  • Con: Dresses will sell at different times requiring you to track what has sold, what hasn’t, and your corresponding payments.

Selling Wedding Dresses

  • Pro: You will get paid up front for your inventory.

  • Pro: You can sell most of if not all of your inventory in one transaction.

  • Con: You will likely get a lower price per dress for the convenience of being paid up front and all at once.

You are the only person that can decide if consigning wedding dresses or selling wedding dresses is the best option for your situation. If you have questions about selling or would like to know more about the process, we’d love to help answer any questions you might have.
